MOVIES: Pacific Rim 2: Del Toro Reveals ‘Gigantic’ Details

del toro pacific rim 2 reveal

Pacific Rim 2.
Guillermo del Toro has been working on the script for about a year and a half, and finally, after much speculation, the 49-year-old director of Hell Boy, Pan’s Labyrinth, and of course, Pacific Rim, gratified fanboys everywhere last week when he announced that thePacific Rim sequel would actually happen. In addition, Guillermo announced a Pacific Rimanimated series, as well as an ongoing Pacific Rim comic book.
Now, in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, del Toro gives the world some great new information on his Kaiju-sized sequel.
“Screenwriter Zak Penn and I really went in, we started with Travis Beacham about a year and a half ago, kicking ideas back and forth. And, admittedly, I said to Zak, let’s keep kicking ideas till we find one that really, really turns the first movie on its ear, so to speak.”
Del Toro went on to speak about how events and elements from the first Pacific Rim film spurned their imagination and ideas about what the second Pacific Rim might entail.
“Then there was this portal that ripped a hole into the fabric of our universe, what were the tools they were using? And we came up with a really, really interesting idea. I don’t want to spoill it, but I think at the end of the second movie, people will find out that the two movies stand on their own. They’re very different from each other, although hopefully bringing the same joyful giant spectacle. But the tenor of the two movies will be quite different.”
In addition to the new Pacific Rim film, del Toro also announced a Pacific Rim animated series. No network has been chosen yet, but del Toro revealed that many of the stories surrounding it would involve pilots working in the building where the jaegers are built – called the Shatterdome – in addition to pilot cadets in training.
The animated series will all take place sequentially before the first Pacific Rim film. It will introduce and flesh out a number of characters that will play an important role in the secondPacific Rim film, del Toro said. In addition to the animated series, a comic book spawned from a graphic novel called Tales from Year Zero will have about three years worth of print editions out before the second Pacific Rim film hits theaters.
Del Toro said in the interview that he wants all these things, the films, the series, the comics, to all be under one large Pacific Rim mythos.
“…so we are trying for all these things to be canon, to be in the same universe, to not wing anything, so that if anyone… a lot of kids, for example, have discovered Pacific Rim through the toys. They come in through the toys, and then they watch the movie, and then they learn this, they learn that through the movie or the comic book series, so we’re trying to make it canon so we can expand the universe.”
Suffice to say, it sounds like fans of Pacific Rim are going to have a ton of material to ingest over the next few years, before Pacific Rim 2 is even released in theaters!

MOVIES: ‘G. I. Joe 3’ Cast Of Characters: Who Could Be In It?

'G. I. Joe 3' cast could have Dwayne Johnson and friends against the Dreadnoks

With the death of most of the Joes from the first movie, it’s obvious that Duke and the rest of the original team won’t be returning. We are going to need some new recruits if the next movie is going to go anywhere. The relationship between Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki) and her mentor (the original Joe, played by Bruce Willis) has been done so there will need to be a new direction this time.
The G. I. Joe 3 cast of characters hasn’t been decided yet, but we do know Paramount has landed a writer for the script. Jonathan Lemkin, whose previous work includes Lethal Weapon 4 and Snow White and the Huntsmen, is now in charge of the first step in what will end up being the next Dwayne Johnson headliner probably in Summer 2016.
After publicly threatening to blow up the world, it’s obvious that Cobra Commander has made enemies with all of the major countries and will probably need new recruits himself. The new G. I. Joe 3 cast is going to have to bring in more classics and possibly some lesser known characters.

For the Joes, it may be time to bring in Gung Ho, the Marine from the Louisiana bayou. Even though Southern actor Channing Tatum won’t be back, having already died in his role as Duke, we can rule him out for the role.
Bringing in Gung Ho will definitely open up some options for swamp characters, and the G. I. Joe canon certainly has its share of those. Cutter wasn’t a major character, but he was the pilot of a specialized hovercraft. Mutt and his dog Junkyard might also make their way into the G. I. Joe 3 cast. Airtight and Clean-Sweep could also be brought in to deal with some kind of poison swamp gas Cobra may be planning to use in an effort to once again wipe out the heroes. Leatherneck and Muskrat (another Marine and a swamp fighter) are other possible additions for the team.
View image on Twitter
Cobra in the 80s G. I. Joe cartoon had a special group of biker-type characters who always hung out in the swamps. The Dreadnoks could make their first appearance as special recruits under Zartan (after it turns out the nano-technology saved his life), working as guerrilla warfare specialists with their scrapping tools. Copperhead, Croc Master, and Toxo-Viper would fit right in as well. We might even see Dr. Mindbender brought back as a power mad clone of his former self.
This is all assuming that the third movie will take place in the Southern U.S., of course, but it will bring in some popular characters for the G. I. Joe 3 cast. It might even help to have a more Rambo or Predator style setting.

MOVIES: That’ll teach her: Jilted man spends £24,000 on hundreds of IMAX tickets to new Transformers film to prove to ex-girlfriend how wealthy he is

The man spent £24,000 block-booking hundreds of tickets to screenings of Transformers: Age of Extinction to prove to his ex-girlfriend how successful he had become

The businessman block-booked the screenings of Transformers: Age of Extinction - seven years after his lover dumped him when he was unable to afford to take her out to watch a film.
He snapped up hundreds of tickets at four of Beijing’s six IMAX theatres for the movie, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Jessica Gomes, in a bid to prove how successful he had become since she left him.

And to hammer home the point, he then decided to give them all away for free on the internet – sparking a frenzy on Chinese social media, the South China Morning Post reports.

The website, which gives the man's surname as Wang, reports how his girlfriend ditched him and moved from their home city of Nanjing to Beijing.

But after ‘striving hard for seven years’ and setting up his own company in Shanghai, he was able to spend 250,000 yuan (around £24,000) on the tickets - said to be half his monthly earnings.

MOIVES: Watch ‘Dracula Untold’ Trailer, First Look At Luke Evans As Vlad The Impaler [Video]

luke-evans-dracula

A dark, intense first trailer for the new Luke Evans film, Dracula Untold has been unofficially released online. Universal’s origins take on the papa of all vampires shows us a new take on the well-known character.
There is a reason they call Dracula “The Prince of Darkness” and in this new trailer it is all very apparent. We take a better look at Luke Evans in his first starring role, taking on one of the most iconic characters in movies, with a twist.
In Dracula Untold, Luke Evans plays a different vampire, or at least, his role is more than just sucking blood from unsuspecting, sleeping females. The film is all about what happened to turn this man, Prince Vlad, into a hunted soul, who lived forever.
Based on the Bram Stroker novel, Dracula, the film is called an origins story, because it explains what happened to Vlad to turn into darkness. After all he was a loving husband and father, who wasn’t always a terrifying creature.
Many outlets are comparing the looks of Luke Evans’ character to that of Christian Bale inBatman Begins. Do you see it?
Dracula Untold new poster
Dracula Untold may be Luke Evans’ first starring role, but the talented Welsh actor has been working very hard in some very high profile films in the last few years. You may have seen him in films such as The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, Fast & Furious 7, The Raven, and the horror film No One Lives.
In an interview with Collider, Luke Evans gave a little tease about what else we can expect with him in the role of Vlad, for which he took on a completely new set of skills:
“It’s a massive, sweeping story about the man behind a fictional character. We start in the 1400′s and It’s about this character, this historical figure Vlad Tepes who was a king and a leader, an immense warrior, he had the love and respect of his people, and it’s about him as much as it’s about his transformation and what makes him turn into this creature of the night, this vampire. It’s an origin story, if you will. It’s a huge story. There’s a massive amount of emotional thread and it has all the elements you’d want from a sweeping drama about a time long gone.”
Dracula Untold poster
Luke Evans added that for Dracula Untold he had to be a part of some “massive” fight scenes. These were very different than any he had done before:
“The fight sequences I did on Dracula are enormous, they’re absolutely enormous. There are points where I was fighting literally hundreds of people and they were all there, hundreds of stunt men.”
Dracula Untold will horrify audiences just in time for Halloween. The Gary Shore film opens in the U.S. on October 17.

MOVIES: ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’: Kevin Feige Opens Up On More Marvel Goodness

guardians_of_the_galaxy_movie

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is apparently already being considered, says Marvel president Kevin Feige. However, much like any franchise which hasn’t yet proved itself, he’s waiting to see how the first movie works.
GotG comes to theaters in the U.S. August 1 and stars some relatively big names. Chris Pratt plays the intergalactic criminal Star-Lord, a scoundrel who is supposedly the master of escapes according to the trailers. Zoe Saldana plays Gamora, the green-skinned assassin. Bradley Cooper is the voice of Rocket Raccoon, a gun-toting alien who hates it when you call him a raccoon. Dave Batista plays Drax the Destroyer, apparently the muscle of the group. Vin Diesel voices Groot, another alien criminal who looks like a tree.
Based on trailers for the upcoming movie, Guardians of the Galaxy is aiming to stick to the tone of the comics, keeping it comedic as this Avengers tie-in takes on the troubles of space. The idea has rarely if ever been done before, and Kevin Feige isn’t making any promises yet. If it does well, we will probably see Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
Feige had this to say about the possible sequel:
“So should this film work, should the audience come out for this one, there are definitely places we can take it and we have ideas of where we’d like to go with it, but really all the energy goes into the first movie first.”
The Marvel front man also commented on the solidifying plans for the Dr. Strange movie. He says that the film will do about the same thing as Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, bringing another kind of hero into the Avengers mix. The idea is to expand and give us more than just physical fighters.
View image on Twitter
Kevin Feige explains, “There’s a whole other side of the Marvel universe, and Doctor Strangeis, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines of its own.”
Feige went on to say that hopefully one day Marvel will own the rights to the entire universe and we will see crossovers with Spider-Man and the X-Men. Due to Fox and Sony doing everything they can to retain their claims, those crossovers aren’t likely to happen any time soon. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 looks more likely for now, and even that is little more than abstract ideas at the moment. It is rumored that the GotG sequel will hit in May 2016.
What do you think of the possible future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kevin Feige sees it? Would you be excited to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and a possible universal crossover?

MOVIES: Is ‘Rambo 5’ About To Bring Back Sylvester Stallone?

'Rambo 5' could retire Sylvester Stallone's John Rambo

Rambo 5 could be in the works, and might see Sylvester Stallone reprise his role of John Rambo once again. This character has come a long way from starting a war over something to eat, but the question is really whether or not Stallone can still handle the action role at his age.
John Rambo got his start as a Vietnam veteran returning home and getting into a militant scuffle with the local authorities. Since then, he has been pulled into action several times to fight other countries’ armies by himself. His only real rival at the box office in those days was Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose tough guy roles made him a star.
Recently the two have made a comeback, though not quite as action-intensive. The Expendables put them both back into the spotlight alongside newcomers Jason Statham and Jet Li, and Schwarzenegger has had some other films in recent years.View image on Twitter
Rambo 5 could be a strain on Sylvester Stallone, 67, and he knows it. Much like his last film Rocky Balboa, he might be using a Rambo sequel to give his other iconic role a proper retirement, though some might argue he’s already done that.
The rumors are flying about the final chapter to the Rambo series after The Expendables producer Avi Lerner and Nu Image released the following statement to the press (translated from German):
“With ‘Rambo V’ Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time he goes up against a Mexican cartel. Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of ‘No Country for Old Men.’ Like the last film, ‘Rambo V’ is produced by Avi Lerner (‘The Expendables 1-3′)”
Stallone may be back, but we probably shouldn’t expect too much action this time unless the story calls for him to train a team. If there is one thing we may have learned in the last few years, it’s that older actors can still pull off an action movie. Bruce Willis did well alongside John Malkovich in the RED films, the other collaborative effort that competed for the Expendables box office.
Rambo 5 may just be an action blockbuster to retire and possibly kill the character.

Could Sylvester Stallone's 'Rambo 5' see the death of John Rambo?

Could ‘Rambo 5′ see the death of John Rambo?
Previously opposed to the idea, Sylvester Stallone has turned his position around. He’s now excited about the idea of reprising the role one last time:
“I know there is [another story to tell]. It’s one thing where you lay down the final culmination of your life where you can articulate it, but also act on it where [Rambo] realizes what his destiny really is. It’s not to be a farmer, it’s not to be obscure; it’s to go out in a blaze of glory in a heroic fashion. But is he really doing it for himself or is he doing it because that’s just his id? That’s who he is.”
Rambo 5 could pit John Rambo against a Mexican cartel similar to The Expendables, and could see him killed in action. All we have are a couple of statements for now.
Would you be excited to see Sylvester Stallone play the role one last time?

Ben Affleck As Batman And The 12 Best Superhero First Looks Ever

We got our first look at Ben Affleck as Batman yesterday courtesy of director Zack Snyder, and by all accounts, it was pretty wonderful.
Our excitement over the new Bat-suit got us thinking: what's the best, most goosebump-inducing first look at a superhero ever, and where does the reveal of Batfleck rank? Here's a rundown of some of our favorites.
12) "Hulk" Teaser Trailer

Ang Lee's 2003 version of the Hulk is one of the most polarizing superhero movies, regarded by some as an artistic failure, a curious blip on the radar of Marvel successes.
The first teaser trailer for "Hulk" is not polarizing: it's just awesome. Eric Bana delivers a great Jekyll & Hyde-inspired monologue with just the right about of crazy, and though we never see the full Hulk, seeing Bana's eye and face morph before he destroys a house made fans eager to see what would be on the big screen.
11) Chris Hemsworth As Thor

"Thor" was probably Marvel's riskiest venture at the time. The thunder god isn't a normal superhero, and Marvel was faced with the task of making him true to the comics while still being believable in a connected universe.
Everyone wanted to know what newcomer Chris Hemsworth, then known as the guy who played Captain Kirk's dad in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek," would look like. The first image, featuring a brooding Hemsworth in costume, managed to show how the movie would be respectful to Thor's medieval look, and that Hemsworth was a ginormous human being who was believable as a god.
10) Ron Perlman as Hellboy

Even riskier than taking a god and translating him to the big screen? Taking a demon and doing the same thing.
Guillermo Del Toro was the perfect man for the job, and this first image from "Hellboy" shows that Ron Perlman was a perfect casting choice.
9) "Iron Man" First Image

No one knew quite what to expect from the movie version of "Iron Man," directed by a guy known at that point for "Swingers" and "Zathura;" but the first image of the suit put a lot of those fears to rest. It's probably the best comics-to-film translation of any supersuit, keeping everything that makes the character recognizable and making it as realistic as it can be.
8) Ben Affleck as Batman in "Batman Vs. Superman"

We've written plenty about this one, but now a day removed it's safe to say that the picture is cool (and very different from most first looks we get of heroes); but it's hard to imagine it on the big screen with Snyder's interesting photographic choice. Fans have taken to colorizing Affleck's suit to give us a better idea, but until we see a wide shot of the suit in full color, it's hard to know how this will play. Still, that doesn't make it any less fun to guess.
7) Christian Bale As Batman In "Batman Begins"

Coming off the debacle that was Joel Schumacher's "Batman and Robin," Christopher Nolan and co. knew they needed a suit that emphasized the seriousness of Batman (and preferably one that didn't have nipples). All Batman fans let out a big exhale upon seeing this first picture, featuring a Batman who was dark, brooding, modern, and who you could take seriously. It was the first step in taking in the camp out of Batman.
6) Henry Cavill As Superman in "Man of Steel"

Zack Snyder had a similar task to Nolan, to erase any thoughts of "Superman Returns." The first image of Henry Cavill in costume allayed many fan fears: Cavill was far more imposing than Brandon Routh, and his new suit was a very modern take on Superman, getting rid of the red underwear and making the costume look more alien with a scaly blue fabric. Mostly, it was just pretty cool.
5) "Superman Returns" Teaser Trailer

Oh, you wanted goosebumps? This one has it in oodles. Bryan Singer's combination of old school Americana imagery, John Williams' music, and Marlon Brando's classic voiceover was enough to make Superman fans need to change their pants. It's an extraordinary trailer that made people expect an extraordinary film, which perhaps hurt when the film was actually released. Still, that image of Superman's silhouette against the sun while Brando says "They only lack the light to show the way" is as good a Superman moment as you'll get, even if it is just in a trailer.
4) "Spider-Man" Teaser Trailer

Because of 9/11, this trailer was only shown in theaters for a short amount of time, and the scene, involving Spider-Man capturing villains in a web between the Twin Towers, was cut from the film.
But having seen that trailer when it first came out, I can tell you: it was the greatest thing ever. I freaked out in the theater seeing it, and I'm sure plenty of other Spidey fans did too. It was perfectly disguised as a heist movie, and then suddenly, you see the web and realize that the webslinger was hitting the big screen. His costume looked great, and even the first scene of him swinging over New York city was pretty exhilarating. It's hard to surprise people nowadays, but this teaser did just that.
3) "Captain America" Post-Credits "Avengers" Teaser

After waiting years to see the Marvel Phase One universe come together, waiting for each movie's post-credits scene to set up another piece of continuity, we finally were rewarded for our patience after the "Captain America" credits with 30 seconds of "Avengers" teaser-y goodness. Nick Fury tells Cap that he needs him to save the world, and then the teaser's off, showing us our favorite heroes finally together, and making everyone wish they could just fast forward time to see the damn movie already.
2) The Joker's Viral Marketing Reveal For "The Dark Knight"

"The Dark Knight" boasted some of the best viral marketing ever for a movie, though it had the added benefit of re-introducing arguably the best villain in anyone's rogues gallery, the Joker, to the big screen. It had been over 20 years since Joker appeared, and the seemingly strange casting choice of Heath Ledger for the role had people a bit confused.
And then the viral marketing hit, and confusion turned right to excitement as fans could submit their email addresses to the site Ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com to, piece by piece, reveal the first image of the Joker. How excited were fans? Well, they got the whole picture in less than 24 hours. The site was soon taken down, but the image remained to haunt your dreams. Amazingly, Ledger's Joker exceeded these early expectations, becoming one of the most iconic big screen villains ever.
1) "Iron Man" Post-Credits Reveal of Nick Fury

No words. Just watch, and remember what it felt like to absolutely freak out in a movie theater because Samuel L. Jackson had an eyepatch and said "Avengers initiative." This was the post-credits scene that launched the Marvel cinematic universe, and might be the most groundbreaking reveal of them all.

Captain America spin-off series Agent Carter headed to television

Marvel's cinematic universe just got a little bigger with the news that the Captain America: The First Avenger spin-off series Agent Carter received a season order from ABC, and will join the recently renewed Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in extending the television element of the franchise.

Hayley Atwell will reprise her Captain America role as Peggy Carter in the upcoming series, which will be based on the "Marvel One-Shot" short film of the same name that was included in the special features of the Iron Man 3 DVD and Blu-Ray.

In the official announcement of the series, ABC described the premise of Agent Carter as follows:

It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

The new series will likely have an easier time fitting into Marvel's cinematic universe than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., renewed for a second season despite questions regarding its future given the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which threw the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. organization into disarray. With Agent Carter set in the mid-'40s (just a year after The First Avenger), Marvel shouldn't have too much trouble playing in the series' period-piece sandbox, and Peggy Carter's role in creating S.H.I.E.L.D. is likely to factor into the over-arching narrative. The series should also provide ample opportunity for cameos from the cast of The First Avenger — particularly for characters like Howard Stark, who was portrayed by Dominic Cooper in the 2011 film.

There's no current date set for the premiere of Agent Carter or the second season Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction adds John Goodman and Ken Watanabe to cast

The cast of Transformers: Age Of Extinction received a bit more star power with the news that actors John Goodman and Ken Watanabe will be voicing two fan-favorite robots joining the ranks of Michael Bay's live-action Transformers franchise.

Both actors will voice members of the Autobots — the heroes of the Transformers universe — with The Big Lebowski actor Goodman voicing Hound (a robot that typically transforms into a Jeep), and Oscar-nominated The Last Samurai actor Watanabe voicing Drift (traditionally, a high-end sports car in his vehicle mode). Both characters will make their live-action debut in Age Of Extinction, which hits theaters June 27.

The pair join previously announced voice actors Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, John DiMaggio as Crosshairs, Mark Ryan as Lockdown, Robert Foxworth as Ratchet, and Reno Wilson as Brains, as well as Frank Welker as Galvatron, who voiced multiple characters in previous installments of the franchise (and throughout most of the Transformers animated series and games) and now seems likely to voice the primary villain of Age Of Extinction.

"I am pleased to welcome two gifted and versatile actors, John Goodman and Ken Watanabe, to the world of Transformers," wrote Bay in the casting announcement that appeared on his official website. "And to re-team with Peter and Frank, who have brought Transformers characters alive from the beginning. I've been fortunate to work with some of the best voice talent in the business, and together we will introduce several exciting new robots to fans of the franchise around the world."

In addition to the film's voice actors, the "human" cast of characters in the film includes Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Li Bingbing, and Titus Welliver.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction hits theaters June 27.

The Ant-Man Movie News: Easter Egg in Captain America 2!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters today, and there are easter eggs everywhere! There are so many of them that I think you'll miss, it's really quite crazy. You can check them out here if you've already seen the movie or don't mind spoilers. However, I think one of the Easter eggs may have been a bit more covert than the rest were. Ready for this?

In the movie, Black Widow and SHIELD Agents use a lot of electrical taser-like weapons, including long, baton-like tasers, and small circular band-aid patch-like tasers. Without spoilers, at one point Black Widow turns to Nick Fury and says something along the lines of "These really do sting!" and then it hit me! Stings! These little suckers might just be Ant-Man's wife and sidekick The Wasp's main weapons: wasp stings!
Wasp Stings are the Wasp's major attack type, just like Thor's is his hammer, Cap's is his shield, etc. First, wasp stings were just her using a needle to prick people, then it turns into an airgun, and finally bio-electrical currents and fire blasts which would just about align with this weapon.
The Wasp is able to harness and augment her body's natural bio-electric energy, releasing it from her hands in powerful electrical force bursts, which she calls her "wasp's stings". Originally, she requires special wrist devices to produce these.
The Wasp's Wikipedia Page
Could we see the Wasp use these as her major weapon in Ant-Man? Also, could this wrist device be a launcher or a glove with these electrical pulsing weapons strung within them?
The Wasp is rumored to be played by The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug star Evangeline Lily, who was reported to be in talks to play the love interest of Paul Rudd's character Scott Lang.
It might also be important to point out that similar technology is used in Guardians of the Galaxy trailer by one of the prison guards messing around with Star-Lord's headphones (1:45). We also saw SHIELD vehicles on Guardians of the Galaxy set, so the weapons could be in intergalactic hands now, making them readily available for the Wasp to use in next year's new Avenger solo film.
Ant-Man is set to hit theaters next summer. In the meantime, go see Captain America: The Winter Soldier today!
