#FASHIONNEWS The Top Fashion Trends

Marc Jacobs spring 2013
Marc Jacobs spring 2013
The fashion pendulum swung in many directions.
For spring, '60s mod was one of the biggest trends of the season with Marc Jacobs showing it through various permutations of black and white stripes, from skirt suits to long gowns. He continued the mod streak at Louis Vuitton where he had models descend escalators in pairs wearing variations of check patterns from bandeau tops to A-line coats to shift dresses. It was, to sum it up in one word, pop. The '60s influence was also visible at Michael Kors' collection which had doses of stripes, graphic checks and A-line shapes.
Jason Wu spring 2013

The idea of dressed and undressed was also a big statement for spring with designers like Reed Krakoff and Prabal Gurung showing dresses and separates layered with sheer organza or chiffon. Jason Wu practically devoted his entire collection to the theme with his many sheer numbers and the leather outfits fused with lace and tulle. Donna Karan and Tom Ford also showed pieces that hinted at skin without actually revealing it.
Balenciaga spring 2013

For his final collection for Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquiere showed one of the most resounding trends for spring 2013 — ruffles — big, flouncy waves of fabric like modernized versions of those seen on flamenco dancers. Ruffles were also seen at Givenchy, Gucci and Peter Pilotto.
Grunge wanted to make itself felt this fall with

designers showing an assemblage of looks that featured anywhere from plaid shirts, leather trousers, biker boots and micro-printed dresses like at Saint Laurent. Allusions to grunge were also seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Versace and Junya Watanabe.
Stella McCartney fall 2013

Supersized coats became the must-have item for fall 2013. Think exaggerated shapes with a cocoon effect. Stella McCartney is the master when it comes to tailored mannish coats. Kenzo showed it in a belted version with sloping shoulders. And Alexander Wang paired his oversized coats with boxing glove-like fur mittens.
And to show that fashion rules like no white after labor day are archaic, designers pushed for the idea of winter whites  — a refreshing palate and palette cleanser after all the leather and black of spring 2013. From Celine to Salvatore
Giambattista Valli fall 2013

Ferragamo to Giambattista Valli, white and its offshoots like cream and ecru made for a glorious fall/winter 2013 season.

FASHION NEWS: London designers target fashion-hungry shoppers with 'tech firsts'

LONDON - Fueled by the boom in online sales for the latest trends, London's designers are finding new ways to deliver instant gratification to fashion hungry shoppers, amid high hopes of boosting growth in the sector.

British retailer Topshop, whose website attracts an average of 4.5 million hits a week, launched a new digital "first" on Sunday by letting shoppers buy six ready-made items from its latest collection immediately after its show at London Fashion Week.

"As we know, everyone spends all their waking moments on all these new platforms, gadgets, Instagram and Twitter," said Philip Green, the owner of Topshop brand and retail conglomerate Arcadia.

The speed of things reaching people is key to our business. You guys see it, wear it, buy it - that's what it's all about ... it's sort of us being there, being first to market - that's our job," he told Reuters.
The collection, which featured brightly colored striped dresses, cycling jerseys and lame dresses in cotton, satin and leather, was live-streamed globally and unveiled exclusively on social networks Instagram and Facebook FB.O. It will be delivered to shoppers globally in the next few days.
Topshop's initiative is one example of "tech firsts" the British Fashion Council (BFC) hopes to champion as part of its efforts to encourage all of its designers to get online and grow their international sales.

After enlisting Google GOOGL.O UK Sales Director Peter Fitzgerald to help designers understand the importance of social media strategy, the BFC said it saw the number of brands with an e-commerce site rise to 43 percent from 33 percent in 2013.

"We're showing designers that the Internet is truly borderless and many of them are getting over half of their sales now from outside the UK," Fitzgerald told journalists via video link on Friday.

ONLINE SALES GROW
Online clothing sales in Britain are set to reach 10.7 billion pounds ($17.41 billion) this year, an increase of 14.5 percent year on year, according to market research firm Mintel.
This season also saw youth label House of Holland team up with 3D-imaging tech firm Metail to allow shoppers to try on and buy clothes from the spring/summer 2015 collection in real time through a digital avatar.

British luxury brand Burberry BRBY.L has partnered with Twitter TWTR.N to sell the nail varnish that will feature in its show on Monday, through a "Buy Now" button that the social media website is currently trialing.

The 158-year-old firm already runs a made-to-order service for customers after it has shown its latest collections.

It's a move that many other leading and emerging designers in London like Jasper Conran, Holly Fulton, Emilia Wickstead and Richard Nicoll said they may consider adding to their business in the future.

Conran, who showcased a collection of cotton and silk printed dresses on Saturday featuring printed paint strokes and abstract designs, said he embraced the options that technology offers to connect to consumers directly.

"People can watch this show, they can see it on the website live and it begins to make more sense. You see it, you want it, you buy it. I like the logic surrounding it," he told Reuters.

FASHION: Ladies 2015 PRADA

Prada

A handout at the Prada presentation tonight equated a fashion show with a theatrical performance: characters, space, costumes, music, and lights creating an enveloping experience. The small, square invitation sealed the deal, summoning us to "Act 2," the first act being the men's show in January, for which Miuccia Prada claimed inspiration from Germany's cultural avant-garde, in particular choreographer Pina Bausch, artist Joseph Beuys, and director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Then, the set was a stark alternative-performance space à la Bausch, encased in felt à la Beuys, and the collection's impact was low-key and obtuse. Now, just over a month later, the set remained exactly the same, but Miuccia had honed the inspiration, focusing on Fassbinder, watching all his movies to the point where she was prepared to announce that she had drawn directly from the costumes in his 1972 film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. "Your culture is done by your past," she said. "History is there for a reason."

Miuccia and Fassbinder, who died in 1982, were more or less of the same generation and were shaped by the same social and political forces, so it was easy to see the appeal of the director for the designer. "His humanity, his love of culture, his love of telling a story," she enthused. "I had so much fun watching all those movies. They gave me a relationship with something less fancy, more dark." That clarified her new collection's obsession with shearling. "The opposite of rich," Miuccia called it, even though, given the volumes and extravagant shades she used, it was anything but poor. She laid it over sheer dresses, the tough and the delicate together, a longtime Prada obsession.

But there was another facet of Fassbinder's creativity that infiltrated this Prada collection to great effect. Petra von Kant connected Miuccia with an old Cecil B. DeMille version of Cleopatra, starring Claudette Colbert, which she became convinced had been a huge influence on Fassbinder. And that got her thinking about the continuities of creativity that run through culture (DeMille begetting Fassbinder begetting Almodóvar, for instance). Staying in tune with the German avant-garde subtext for a minute, the strong 1920s/1930s strand in Miuccia's new designs—the slink of sheer shifts, the Art Deco prints, the Deco-influenced silver tracery, the chevron necklines, the Metropolis wedge heels—evoked the Weimar era, where avant-gardism exploded over ground. Dietrich's Lola in The Blue Angel was an icon of Weimar. Fassbinder updated her in his own 1982 movie, Lola. Tonight Barbara Sukowa, the star of that film, was performing live with strings, wind instruments, and the soundscapes of Frederic Sanchez. What was she singing? The songs of Kurt Weill, the genius composer of Weimar.

The perfect circularity of the whole presentation was an exact embodiment of Miuccia's own fascination with the way that ideas roll forward through the ages, finding new life and new modes of expression. Clothes as ambassadors for ideas? That is more than enough to be going on with as you flick through the racks in a Prada store next fall.

FASHION: Victoria’s Secret Models Do This Crazy Thing For Perfect Hair

Barbara Fialho hair secrets

Amongst many other things, Victoria’s Secret models are known for their long and bouncy hair. Either on the runway or in a photoshoot, the smooth tresses of these girls are flawless and envy-worthy. Now, Victoria’s Secret model Barbara Fiahlo has revealed the crazy trick that her and fellow VS supermodels do to keep their mane perfect – they burn their hair!
The procedure is known as velaterapia. Essentially, a hair stylist uses the open flame of a lit candle to burn off split ends. This “cauterizes” the hair and locks moisture in. “Yes, they actually light a candle and touch it to your hair,” Barbara Fiahlo insists, a Victoria’s Secret model who swears by the treatments. Check out a video demonstration of the procedure below!
The trend of burning off split ends originated in Brazil, a country known for long, luscious locks. “Brazilians are, in general, very much into long, bouncy, wavy hair,” says Victoria Ceridono, the beauty editor for Vogue Brazil. Brazil is only second behind the United States when it comes to money spent on hair treatment. While some Brazilian treatments have become controversial due to toxic chemicals used in some products, this treatment, while bizarre, just requires a bit of flame.
Barbara, who originates from Brazil, says this treatment works for her because she’s already done too much damage to her hair. “If I did [straightening treatments] I would lose all my hair! They’re very strong,” she says. She says the velaterapia treatment takes about two to three hours, but it’s worth it. “It’s unbelievable. You don’t get shorter hair, but if you touch the treated side it feels so much smoother and healthier!” Fiahlo says that she’s even introduced Victoria’s Secret friends Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana to this method, and that they’ve gone to the upscale Laces and Hair salon in Sao Paolo for treatments. The treatment has become extremely popular in Brazil among the wealthy elite.

Still want supermodel hair but can’t afford the trip to Sao Paolo (and too scared to try the candle trick at home)? There’s a simpler look that’s been popular this summer with our favorite Victoria’s Secret girls: the side braid. Miranda Kerr and Alessandra have both been spotted rocking the side braid this summer, usually paired with a chic brimmed hat. The look is perfect for those hot-and-humid days when you want to keep your hair down, but don’t want a sweaty mess. It’s kept these Victoria’s Secret models cool and pulled together on the most blazing days. (Plus, you don’t have to worry about accidentally burning your hair!)

FASHION: 7 Beauty Tips To Survive The Sizzling Summer

Beauty Tips For The Summer

Summer is upon us, but before you head out in the blazing heat, check out these beauty tips. The sun can wreak some serious havoc on your skin, so here are some tidbits to keep both you and your skin happy this summer.
Beauty Tip #1: Wear sunscreen! Beauty experts can’t emphasize it enough. At least 15 minutes before sun exposure, apply your sunscreen. There are tons of brands and types to choose from, but make sure your sunscreen has an SPF of 30 or higher, water-resistance, and protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Don’t forget to reapply!
Beauty Tip #2: Put down those irons! The sun’s rays can penetrate deep into the hair’s fibers and cause damage worse than your regular flatiron. Instead of reaching for your crimper, try a spray a sea salt solution to bring out your natural waves.
Beauty Tip #3: Look for lip products with SPF! From lipsticks to lip balms, the lips are often the most neglected when it comes to sun protection, and trust us; you don’t want to experience sunburned lips.
Beauty Tip #4: Hydrate! This goes for both you and your skin. Drinking lots of water keeps your body retaining moisture, and a healthy amount of moisturizer every day keeps your skin soft and supple.
Beauty Tip #5: Keep frizz away! Try out a diffuser when blow-drying to smooth your hair while limiting its exposure to heat. For bonus points, blast your hair with a cool shot of hair to lock in your style and shine. Even if you don’t own a diffuser, remember to deep condition every other week for smoother hair.
Beauty Tip #6: Switch to waterproof formulas of your makeup essentials! Most mascara brands offer a waterproof counterpart, so take advantage of it! Waterproof formulas are more wax-based rather than water-based, leaving your mascara flawlessly smudge-proof all day. An added bonus: waterproof formulas tend to hold curls better. Remember: waterproof formulas can take a toll on your lashes, so keep an oil-based eye makeup remover to keep your lashes from getting dry and brittle.
Beauty Tip #7: Don’t be afraid to rock a bare face! Summer is a great time to just let your skin have some R & R, just like you! So when you’re running off to beach, instead of piling on a full face, put on some confidence and head out! Your skin will thank you.
Anyone can try out these simple beauty tips and see drastic improvement to your summertime fun!

TOP FASHION: Kate Upton Is The New Face Of Express And Bobbi Brown Cosmetics

Kate Upton

Kate Upton has been a busy woman this summer. Hot off a round of promotions for her acting debut in The Other Woman, Kate hopped right back into the modeling world, signing on as the spokeswoman for both Express and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.
Kate, who celebrated her 22nd birthday last week with boyfriend Justin Verlander, is ecstatic to be representing both brands in their new fall campaigns. “It’s really exciting for me to be the brand ambassador for Express because it’s a brand that I have grown up with and always wear,” Kate says.View image on Twitter
Kate’s go-to Express purchase? “Definitely a tank top — I grew up in Florida!” Upton says her day-to-day style is much more laid back than the “classic, sophisticated and sexy” look she goes for on the red carpet. “I love to get all dressed up, but it can be really exhausting to get done-up like that every day. When I’m on my own, it’s more realistic for me to be casual and comfortable because I love to be outside and I am always hanging out with friends and family.”
Kate’s also thrilled to be representing Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, a brand she says her mother introduced her to as a teen. As for why Bobbi picked Kate to represent the brand, Bobbi says that “it’s really inspirational to see a woman who feels so good and so confident, like Kate. [Kate's] completely individual and independent.”

Being a spokeswoman in the fashion industry is a new thing for Kate, whose career has been mostly bikini modeling. Breaking out into more high fashion gigs was tough for Kate:
“At the time I was modeling, it was more of a slim look [in fashion]. I actually got down on myself. I didn’t feel as confident. I didn’t feel beautiful. It took me a minute to realize that it doesn’t really matter what people say to you or what people think. It’s about competing with yourself and you being the best you can be.”
In addition to the spokeswoman gigs, you can also catch Kate in the new Lady Antebellum music video for “Bartender,” as we’ve previously reported.

FASHION NEWS:PRADA 2015 Collections

PRADA
Prada Spring 2015 Menswear
His and hers. Equality. At heart, a strong political statement, but that was too specific for Miuccia Prada when she was reflecting on the collection she presented tonight. Her logic was more personal. "Anytime I do a men's show, I'm thinking this would be fantastic for women—or at least for me. And more and more, it feels instinctively right to translate the same idea for both genders," she said. Not unisex, mind you. That's not a word Ms. P. is partial to, though she hasn't found one to take its place. And it may have been a bridge too far to seek an answer in Frederic Sanchez's soundtrack. He used music from Psychic TV, whose frontman, Genesis P-Orridge, spent years with his wife, Lady Jaye, undergoing cosmetic surgery so they could become gender-neutral human beings who looked like each other. Pandrogeny, that's called.

But maybe the measured performance Prada staged—against a set of a huge, limpid blue swimming pool, ironic symbol of summer—didn't really need that kind of definition. It spoke for itself in its restraint and peculiar dignity. "When you do a women's show, it's never enough," she said, suggesting that it was a relief to work on something more realistic. There were clues, as usual, in the hors d'oeuvres the audience was served: vol-au-vent, Russian salad, shrimp puffs—fiercely untrendy finger food from a more conservative time. Conservative being a loaded word, Prada preferred proper. And that certainly worked for these grave boys and girls in their matching outfits. Some pieces were topstitched to emphasize their classic shapes: neat little jackets, jeans, boxy skirts. Otherwise, it was shirts and sweaters, with statement topcoats in leather. As overt as the collection got was a handful of pleated party dresses decorated with strips of glittering beads, but even those were sober enough for an audience with the Pope.

Right now at the Fondazione Prada in Venice, there is a conceptual exhibition called Art or Sound, which Prada describes as "a protest against uselessness and exaggeration" in the art world. It's no stretch to imagine that the realness in tonight's show was her fashion equivalent.
