Washington Redskins Name Change Suggestions Include The Washington Tea Party
With the entire Washington Redskins trademark dispute still trundling its way toward the courts, some people are suggesting that a good idea for a Redskins name change is the Washington Tea Party. You can pretty much see where this is going…
In a related report by The Inquisitr, it is claimed that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder will feel pressure to accept the demands for a name change because the lack of a Redskins trademark will cause them to lose money. But on the political side, even the ACLU is claiming it is wrong to take away the Redskins trademark and others point out how the dispute puts other sports teams with potentially “disparaging” names in the crosshairs of the PC thought police:
“For example, the PC police would say the Cleveland Indians’ logo of a red-skinned Native American is obviously racist, never mind the Chicago Blackhawks whose logo is very similar in design. The Duke Blue Devils may be considered disparaging by Satanists for their portrayal of Satan. The U.S. Military Academy Black Knights could be considered offensive to African Americans. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are just portraying a negative racial stereotype and maybe the same could be said for the Boston Celtics.”
Now one serious previous suggestion for the Redskins name change was the Washington Bravehearts, but that name idea was shot down by Snyder quite a while ago. Since the latest move was started by politically correct Democrats, conservative groups like the Constitutional Rights PAC have responded to the controversy by starting a campaign to rename the Redskins to the Washington Tea Party.
The group behind this idea makes this politically charged claim:
“The Tea Party movement aims to put power in the hands of the people, not in the hands of the government. The movement is made up of Patriots who stand up to government intrusiveness, and fight for the principles set forth in the U.S. Constitution. Given the recent events regarding the fight to change the ‘offensive’ Redskins team name, the Tea Party is the perfect representation of the fight of the American people against political correctness and government intrusion.”
Of course, the photo they are passing around on social media makes their goal even more obvious, which is to “help us piss off the politically correct left.”
Do you think the Washington Redskins name should be changed? Or do you believe the Redskins trademark should be restored to the NFL team?
